Accountants and IT providers as AI sellers

Small firms already take technology advice from accounting firms and managed IT providers; both are moving into AI, but accounting firms mostly aim at the mid-market and few IT providers earn real revenue from it yet.

Two kinds of trusted advisor

Small firms buy technology advice from two kinds of outside firm: their accountants and their managed IT providers (MSPs). Both now sell AI services. Their position is different from that of an AI agency: they already hold the client relationship and the billing, and AI is an add-on to something the client already pays for.

Accounting and advisory firms

The larger accounting firms are investing heavily in AI, but their public AI pages are written for the mid-market.

FirmWhat it has said publicly
CLAAbout 9,000 people and more than $2 billion revenue in 2024; announced a $500 million investment in AI and digital solutions
Grant Thornton AdvisorsAnnounced $1 billion over three years in AI tools (Sept 2025)

Citrin Cooperman (US)Acquired AI implementer Rosetree Solutions on 1 October 2026; about 60 Rosetree staff join a firm of 3,600+; Citrin reported $985 million revenue

None of the firm pages read for this research listed AI packages or prices. The RSM Middle Market AI Survey 2025 found that 70% of respondents said they needed outside help to get the most from AI; the survey covers mid-market companies, a larger group than very small firms.

Some accounting firms also act as resellers. True North Agentics, a Toronto consultancy, runs a partner programme in which accounting, bookkeeping, fractional-CFO and IT firms deliver its services under their own brand and keep the client relationship, billing and margin.

Managed IT providers

Industry surveys describe MSPs as eager to sell AI and, so far, mostly not earning from it.

Typical MSP AI offers are an AI readiness assessment and a Microsoft Copilot deployment. One MSP-focused guide (Scopable, May 2026, advice written for MSPs) gives these price points: AI readiness assessment $2,500 to $6,000; Copilot readiness review for 50 seats $1,500 to $2,500; Copilot pilot rollout for 50 seats $3,500 to $5,000; ongoing Copilot administration for 50 seats $750 to $1,250 a month; workflow automation project $5,000 to $25,000.

Example: Fusion Computing (Toronto). A managed IT and cybersecurity provider, Canadian-owned since 2012, with offices in Toronto, Hamilton and Metro Vancouver. It usually serves businesses with 10 to 150 employees. Its AI services include a paid AI readiness assessment and a $750 discovery step, Microsoft Copilot deployment, Power Automate consulting (from $5,000) and a custom business AI platform ($5,000 to $50,000+), alongside managed IT from $185 per user per month (all CAD). Its proof points are company claims: a 4.9 out of 5 Google rating and 93% first-contact resolution.

The default AI a small firm already has

Two software suites bring AI to small firms without any consultant.

Microsoft sells Copilot Business for 1 to 300 seats, and the suite bundles for 10 to 300 seats, through its partner (CSP) channel. Microsoft's partners are the MSPs and resellers described above, so the same firms that advise small businesses also resell these products.
